John Manlove, is President and CEO of John Manlove Marketing & Communications a third-generation family owned business. John built his business from a one-car garage in Southeast Houston into one of the largest most successful marketing firms in the Houston area. John has built and sold two companies, a printing company and ChurchMarketing.com. John Manlove also created two startup companies, ITZ Floral in 2006 which imported pre-packaged flowers direct from Guatemala to Houston and a specialty coffee company started in 2012.
John was born and raised in Houston. He put himself through college at the University of Houston and earned a degree in Political Science by working as a professional musician and substitute schoolteacher with HISD. John is married to his high school sweetheart, Gina Manlove and they raised two daughters here in Southeast Harris County.
In addition to building a successful business, John served as city councilman and mayor of the City of Pasadena, one of the largest cities in Texas. As Mayor, he represented 150,000 citizens and was responsible for 1,000 employees and an annual budget of $150,000,000.
John was appointed to serve, on the Board of Trustees for the Port of Galveston and appointed as a Director of the Galveston Port Facilities Corporation by the Galveston Mayor and City Council in 2010. John also served as Chairman of the Real Estate Committee and as a member of the important Finance Committee for the Port of Galveston. The City of Galveston appointed John Manlove to their Finance and Fiscal Affairs committee September 2015 and served as its Chairman. John was the Chairman of the American Advertising Federation-Houston and also served as Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee and was appointed as Vice Chair of the Bryan Museum Associate Board. John was also appointed in 2018 to set on the Houston Community College’s Digital Communications Advisory Board. In May of 2020 was appointed President of the Galveston Island Redevelopment Authority, which also oversees the Galveston Housing Finance Corporation and the Galveston Property Finance Authority.
John “Gonzales” Manlove, is part Hispanic and bilingual in English and Spanish. John Manlove’s business is a Minority Business Enterprise with the City of Houston and has HUB certification with the State of Texas as a Hispanic owned business.
John Manlove Marketing & Communications has a reputation for creating results, through effective marketing techniques across all media including TV, Radio, Print, Outdoor and the Internet John has maintained clients spanning decades. It was John Manlove’s company that recently rebranded Port Houston.
Among other achievements, John has authored two books on marketing, was voted Texas Businessman of the Year in 1991 by Phi Beta Lamda, was awarded Champion for Children by the Pasadena Independent School District in 2003, is a Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary International, and was awarded the Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2005 by the Boy Scouts of America. Awarded Baylor University Business of the Year Award 2007 and received the East Harris County Manufacturers Association’s Leadership Award 2007. The agency was awarded Business of the Year 2009 by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and awarded business of the year by Economic Alliance Houston Port Region 2009. John and his wife Gina were presented with the Sally B. Wallace Award for Historic Preservation 2015 and they were recognition for their continued leadership and support of the San Jacinto Monument by the San Jacinto Museum of History in 2015.
John Manlove has been hired to consult with United States Army’s Special Operations Recruitment Battalion – Fort Brag to improve recruitment efforts and has been a featured speaker at conventions regarding, marketing, branding and business management.
